Fire barriers and curtains can achieve up to two hours fire protection. Fire barriers are ordinarily available with either a mineral fibre plain face or foil face and curtains are coated glass fibre.
Mineral fibre fire barriers
- 50mm thick (normally)
- continuously supported
- hung vertically
- secured at the head or soffit
- tested to BS476:Part 4 : 1970 (1984)
- Building regulations 1981 (1992 edition) compliant
Fire curtains
- Very light
- Flexible and adaptable product
- Provides smoke and fire cavity barrier
- Stretched between perimeter fixings and staple jointed to ensure fully effective
- Tested to BS476:Part 2 : 1987 for fire integrity
- May be used where other fire insulation is not a prerequisite
If there is a need to break through either a fire curtain or a fire barrier this will need to be sleeved to ensure that flames cannot pass through i.e. an effective fire stop.
